Built during World War II to provide logistical support for U.S. Army Air Corps operations, Brookhaven Calabro Airport is a mile north of the central business district of Shirley in Suffolk County, New York. Originally called Mastic Flight Strip, its ownership was turned over to the state of New York after the war, and was acquired by the Town of Brookhaven in 1961.
