San Diego International Airport – SAN San Diego
The San Diego International Airport is owned and managed by the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority. It is previously known as Lindbergh Field and is located 3 miles northwest of downtown San Diego. Having been the busiest airport with a single runway, it serves 500 flights that carry 500,000 passengers per day, and exceeded passenger traffic to 20 million in 2015. It is also ranked as the third busiest airport in the world next to Sahar International Airport and the London Gatwick.
Best Time to Visit
San Diego International Airport and has two terminals, each divided into two parts. It has 51 terminal gates in total. The airport has been said to be home the largest USO center in the world and sponsors an “airport explorers” program that promotes education about its history. Its Terminal 2 has some art displays that are well-known. There is also a vast selection of retail stores, restaurants and beverage shops throughout the terminals. The airport also has a car rental facility located on the airport’s north side that house 14 car rental agencies. Passengers are transported to and from the airport through the on-airport shuttle bus. Same shuttle bus is also intended to carry passengers from off-site car rental companies and drop them off at a nearby trolley stop. You can also tour around San Diego since it’s the city where the airport is located.
What to Do & Area Attractions
There are no on-site hotels in San Diego International Airport but there a quiet number of hotels nearby. One of them is the Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina, which is only less than a kilometer away and also offers free shuttle services to the airport. Other SAN San Diego hotels nearby that offer free shuttle services are the Homewood Suites by Hilton and Residence Inn by Marriott.
A lot of airports are also serving the state of California, and to name a few, there are the McClellan-Palomar Airport, Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport and the Oceanside Municipal Airport.
