Because of the gratitude of American soldiers, he was given a piece of land. The first post office was built in 1813. The word Mont means mountain and Rose is taken from Dr. L Rose who is a prominent citizen of the town. Because of the town’s location, Montrose has become the center of the natural gas industry in the state.
