Sde Dov Airport – SDV Tel Aviv
Also formerly known as Dov Hoz Airport, the Sde Dov Airport is an airport that serves commercial listed flights in Tel Aviv, Israel to domestic destinations such as northern Israel, Eilat and the Golan Heights. It also served as a base for the Israeli Air Force. The airport was opened in 1938 and was named after one of the Jewish aviation pioneer, Dov Hoz. It was abandoned in 1940 after an airline stopped its operations at the airport. Then in 1948, it recovered its commercial operations, catering domestic flights, to mostly single customers, through the Piper Cub aircraft. Sde Dov Airport is the biggest airport in Tel Aviv and second in the area next to Ben Guiron Airport.
Best Time to Visit
The airport had two terminals. Forty percent of the airport movements are from the IAF. Unfortunately, Sde Dov Airport ended its operations and was closed on June 30, 2019, because the plan of building high-end residential buildings on its property has come to effect. Since then, commercial flights were moved to Ben Guiron Airport. Some military flights are also moved to other Israeli Air Force bases. The airport no longer handles any traffic as of July 2019. Preceding its closure, Arkia and Israir Airlines both operate booked flights outside of the airport. A lot of cities like Azor, Jaffaand Ganei Am have been using SDV Tel Aviv as a way to travel to other places in Israel.
