Covilhã Airport – COV Covilhã
The Covilhã Airport is a now-defunct medium airport that served the city of Covilhã, Portugal. The regional Covilhã Airport (airport code: COV), which is 2.8 kilometers from the city center, started its operations in 1943 until its demolition in 2013. The airport was demolished to give way to Portugal Telecom’s Data Center.

During the time that it was open, the Covilhã Airport (COV) catered to flights reaching to three destinations. Located in what is called a town of wool and snow and the coldest place in Portugal, the COV Airport was accessible via several parishes, such as Silgueiros, Povolide, and the city of Viseu, which is home to the acclaimed Grão Vasco Museum, named after Vasco Fernandez, one of the most important Portuguese Renaissance painters. In 2013, the airport’s activities were discontinued, and the Covilhã Airport was demolished to give place to the Data Center of Portugal Telecom. The Data Center is built to be sustainable, with a rain water collection system, an on-site photovoltaic solar power generator, and a garden filled with more than 600 trees.
