Streator: Home of Pluto
Streator, IL sits close by the Vermilion River and was named after Worthy S. Streator who financed the first coal mining operation in the area. Since the city thrived primarily because of coal mining, it is only right that the city was named after this Ohio-based industrialist. It is also interesting to note that the city was the home of Clyde Tombaugh who discovered Pluto in 1930. The city is currently being served by the Peru-Illinois Valley Regional Airport.
