About Base hotel Silea
Iceland has become a popular destination in travelers’ bucket lists in recent years, and Base Hotel prides itself as one of the best accommodation service providers in the country. Its name is inspired by the former NATO Base where it is situated. Sitting inside the buildings that the US Navy and US Air Force inhabited, the hotel has a strong retro vibe. With artifacts and photographs, guests will surely love the unique experience.
The US Navy and US Air Force came to Iceland and stayed there during World War II. In 1951, a decade since the arrival of American soldiers, Iceland and the US entered into an agreement that allowed the latter’s forces to stay in Iceland. In return, the US Navy and US Air Force defended the country for over 50 years.
With its location, guests can conveniently explore the popular Reykjanes Peninsula and Southwest Iceland. It is also strategically located near Keflavik Airport, making it a great option for travelers. There are different types of rooms available and all kinds of guests are welcome. For those who are on a tight budget, they may opt for the hostel-style bunk beds. There are also affordable suites for those who value privacy and a little more convenience.
