The Honolulu-based giant hotel chain was founded by Roy and Estelle Kelley in 1947. The first modestly-priced hotel rooms offering in Waikiki as the tourism boom started. With over 70 years of history, its humble beginning prospered into luxurious hotels in 37 locations in primary islands getaways such as Hawaii, Fiji, Maldives, Guam, and Thailand.

Hawaiian scholar and historian Dr. George Kanahele designed the Ke 'Ano Wa'a process in 1993 also known as the Outrigger Way which deepened the company’s appreciation of local host culture.
