Waimea-Kohala Airport – MUE Kamuela
Waimea-Kohala Airport is a public use airport owned by the Hawaii Department of Transportation. The state-owned airport is situated in an unincorporated town in Hawaii County, 1.2 miles southwest of Kamuela. It started servicing scheduled passengers in November 1953. The airport is two miles southwest of town and is the perfect airline to access Waimea’s attractions. Currently, the airport serves routes to Kahului, Maui two times a day with Mokulele Airlines. The airport is classified as a non-primary commercial service facility by the Federal Aviation Administration National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2017-2021.

Waimea-Kohala Airport covers a land area of 36 hectares with a single runway measuring 1,584 meters by 30 meters. It also has a single aircraft parking apron and taxiway at the west end of the runway. Sharing space with the airport maintenance facility is an aircraft rescue and firefighting facility. The airport has a passenger terminal and general aviation facilities. The airport started out as an airstrip used by liaison aircraft and was formerly known as Bordelon Field. After the war, it served as the service air provider for the district of Waimea up to the present. MUE Airport serves nearby towns and cities such as the Honokohua, Kalaoa and Makalawena.
