The airport is owned by General Directorate State Airports and operated by Istanbul Grand Airport. Istanbul Airport was constructed to replace Istanbul Ataturk Airport to cater the growing passengers visiting the country. The construction of the airport will also address the worsening air traffic congestion, allowing additional cargo shipments and increase the number of parking slots.
