Prince Albert (Glass Field) Airport – YPA Prince Albert, SK, Canada

Prince Albert (Glass Field) Airport or YPA is just a mile away from the city of Prince Albert, SK, Canada. It was first opened in 1940 and used as an Elementary Flying Training School through the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan. The facility displays a monument in memory of the 17 airmen and one civilian who died during an accident when the school was still operational. While the school itself closed in 1944, the facility continued to operate and currently has scheduled flights to and from various destinations.

Airlines offering their services in the facility include ExpressAir, West Wind Aviation, and Transwest Air. Destinations include Regina, Points North, Stony Rapids, Uranium City, La Ronge, and others. It also accommodates charters taken for mine site workers of Cameco and AREVA. Four runways are used in the airport, all of which are built with a Turf Field surface. Most people who use this facility are doing so as an access point to Prince Albert which is the largest city in the district. In fact, it’s known as the “Gateway to the North” which means that you can reach a lot of the major attractions once you land in Prince Albert.

The Twilite Motel is also a nice option, located almost 3 miles away. Those who prefer to stay somewhere familiar can check out the Days Inn by Wyndham Prince Albert with its location of 3.5 miles away from the airport. No other airfield facilities can be found nearby.
