Nawabshah Airport – WNS Nawabshah
Set about 1.8 miles southwest of Nawabshah in the province of Sindh in Pakistan, Nawabshah Airport is a public/military facility used by both the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority as well as the Pakistan Air Force. Built by the British Raj, it is 192 kilometers northeast of Karachi. While it hasn’t handled any scheduled passenger flights since November of 2016, it is occasionally used as a diversion airport for aircraft with mechanical problems, or as an alternate for Jinnah International Airport like in 2014, when Jinnah International Airport had to be closed as a result of the attack that took place on June 8, 2014.

Occupying 772 acres (312 hectares) of land, Nawabshah Airport started out as a bricked runway constructed for use by the British Airport Force. A concrete runway was laid in the early 1960s for commercial flights, and in 1998, the existing runway was commissioned along with the jet apron. Designated 02/20, WNS Airport’s lone runway measures 8,999 × 151 feet (2,743 x 46 meters) and is not equipped to handle instrument landing system approaches. In October of 1992, a new terminal building was completed. From WNS, travelers can proceed to Nawabshah, Sakrand, Sarhari, Jam Sahib, or Daur.
