Speyer: Escaping in the Centuries-Old German Town
Located in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, Speyer, Germany, is a town housing around 50,000 occupants. It lies on the left side of the river of the Rhine, 13 miles from the southwestern portion of Heidelberg. The Romans founded Speyer back in the 10 BC, during which a military camp was set in the area. This made Speyer one of the oldest cities in the whole country. The end of the winter season, which runs from December to February, is celebrated in Speyer with a fabulous Laetara Parade along Maximillianstrasse. But the busiest season is actually in the fall when most of Speyer, Germany hotels are either booked or expensive. The hotels offer discounts during the offseason of June to August.
