About Belmond Hotels Rio de Janeiro
Formerly known as Orient-Express Hotels Ltd., the hotel chain was founded in 1976 upon the acquisition of Hotel Cipriani in Venice. The company took the original name from the Orient Express train which has become a part of the pop culture over time. Also, the company operates Trains as well. It has operations in the Orient Express itself among other sleeper trains and a few day trains. Another fun thing is that they also manage Riverboats and Restaurants. However, it is the hotel brand that grew the most. The brand has made a good mark in the European hospitality industry which gave Belmond the opportunity to expand internationally. Currently, they have operations in North America, South America, Asia, and Africa.
Due to this success, the Orient-Express Hotels was rebranded into Belmond as a nod to the milestones Belmond Hotels have contributed to the company. In 2018 though, the company was acquired by LVMH, making the reputation of the hotel even more upscale. Even before that acquisition, the revenue of the Belmond Hotels in 2017 was already worth $561 million. Under the new management, Belmond continues to satisfy luxurious hospitality expectations and expand operations in more locations across the globe.
