PQM-Palenque International Airport, located in Palenque, Mexico is under the operation of Grupo Aeroportuario de Chiapas which is actually a government owned corporation. The facility handles both international and domestic flights, opening just as recently as 2014. As of 2017, it accommodated close to 15,000 passengers, experiencing a steep jump to close to 17,500 passengers the following year.
Best Time to Visit
The airport currently has several scheduled flights via the airlines Interjet and Magni with flights to Mexico City and seasonal Monterrey flights. Passengers flying in the airport go directly to the city of Palenque which is primarily a growing or farming community. However, there are tourist’s attractions in the area, specifically the Mayan culture. The site is home to the Temple of the Inscriptions and the tomb of King Pakal which was discovered fairly recently during the 1950s. The community is surrounded by rainforests and forms part of the Maya Route. Airport traffic usually peaks during the spring equinox as passengers rush in Mexico to take part in the celebrations.
