One of the leading people in the group, Vasco Bensaude had always wanted to open the Azores to the international scene, so he was the first person to build a luxury hotel in Sao Miguel Island in 1935. It was the Hotel Terra Nostra. He was also the first person to construct an Azorean golf course in 1937 as well as the pioneer in launching an Azorean airline company, SATA, in 1947.
