Columbia Metropolitan Airport (CAE) is the principal commercial airport serving Columbia, South Carolina and the state’s Midlands region. The airport is 8 kilometers southwest of the city and has become a regional cargo hub for an American cargo airline. Established in 1940 as the Lexington County Airport, it became a military airfield during World War II. After the war, the airport was reverted to civilian use and in 1965, the same terminal which still stands today opened.At present, constant improvements in services and facilities are being undertaken.
