Scatsa Airport – SCS Shetland
5 miles southwest of Sullom Voe Terminal is a commercial airport called Scatsa Airport. It serves the island of Mainland, in Shetland Scotland. The airport has a Civil Aviation Authority Ordinary Licence, which allows the airport to operate flights for the public transport of passengers going in and out of Mainland Island. Scatsta Airportwas first developed under the name of RAF Scatsta in 1940 that based the Royal Air Force fighter planes to give support to coastal operations in RAF Sullom. After World War II, the airport was abandoned and then restored as a civilian airport in 1978 to support the oil industry of Shetland and the oil terminal in Sullom Voe. Scatsta Airport is the sixth biggest airport in Scotland as of August 2018.

The airport of Scatsta is composed of a runway and an old rebuilt passenger terminal. Its average passenger traffic in 2018 is more than 170 thousand. But the facilities at the airport are scarce. There’s no restaurant or even just food kiosks for passengers to grab some snacks. Although there are a few cafés and snack bars outside the airport, passengers going out of Shetland should bring their food. There is only a vending machine and nothing more. Not even a duty-free outlet or a single gift shop is available at the airport. The city of Lerwickis the only nearby place at SCS Shetland.
