Franz Josef Strauss International Airport, or more commonly called Munich Airport, is the international airport serving Munich. It is considered the second busiest airport in the whole of Germany in terms of passenger traffic and the eighth busiest airport in the whole of Europe. By 2018, the airport has handled an impressive total of 46.3 million passengers. In terms of international passenger traffic, it is ranked as the 15th busiest airport in the world.

MUC Airport is named after the former Bavarian minister-president, Franz Josef Strauss. The airport’s predecessor, Munich-Riem Airport was already operational from the years 1939 to 1992, but it wasn’t until May 17, 1992 that the new Munich Airport was first operational. The airport has two passenger terminals as well as a midfield terminal. It features two runways and extensive maintenance and cargo facilities. The airport is fully equipped to handle even the Airbus A380, a wide-body aircraft. This international airport features a Munich Airport Center or MAC, which is a shopping, recreation, and business area. It connects to the airport’s two main terminals. The MUC Airport is a preferred hotel by travelers coming from nearby cities namely Parsdorf, Hohenlinden, Mammendorf and the rest of the Bavaria district.
