Before its first hotel opened in 2008, Starwoods devised a plan to generate people's interest by featuring Aloft Hotel in a virtual world called Second Life. This allowed guests to navigate through the hotel's interior and explore on site amenities before ever setting foot inside the hotel. The response gathered from guests during that simulation became the foundation for the construction of future Aloft Hotels.
