Valley International Airport – HRL Harlingen

Valley International Airport is situated in Rio Grande Valley. Because of its location, the airport is known to be the “Gateway to South Padre Island” and has a door-to-door transportation offered to the passengers going to the island. An airport board runs the airport with nine members that are appointed by the mayor because it is owned by the city of Harlingen, Texas. The airport was once Harlingen Air Force Base and was later converted to a civil airport.

Valley International Airport has a total land area of 983 hectares and has three asphalt runways with different measurements.  With its size, the airport is the largest airport in Rio Grande Valley and has the longest runways. Its systems are modernized which makes sure that flight delays are at the minimum level. The airport serves destinations in Dallas, Fort Worth, Chicago-O’Hare, Denver, Austin, Houston-Hobby and Houston-Intercontinental with airlines such as American Eagle, Delta Connection, Frontier Airlines, Southwest Airlines, Sun Country Airlines and United Express. The airport features seven gates with shopping and dining options and parking lots. Other nearby cities includes Laguna Vista, Los Fresnos, Lozano and Port Isabel.
