The Gloucestershire Airport is a public and military airport located in Staverton, Gloucestershire in England. It serves the M5 area as well as Gloucestershire, England. Found 3.5 miles from Cheltenham and is close to the M5 motorway. Working under the IATA code GLO and the ICAO code EGBJ, it sits at an elevation of 101 feet above mean sea level. There are 4 runways and runways 1 to 3 have asphalt surfaces while runway 4 has a grass surface. Runway 2 is the longest and measures 4,695 feet. In 2013, the airport handled a total of 14,168 passengers.
Best Time to Visit
The airport was opened in the early 1930s and it was named after the village of Down Hatherley. It was used for training purposes during World War II and was known as RAF Staverton. After the war, the airport was mainly used as a test site for aircrafts. It was also around this time when scheduled flights to the Isle of Man, Dublin, and the Channel Islands started. Its name was change to Gloucestershire Airport (GLO) in 1993. Expansion and updates were undertaken and completed in 2009. Cities, towns, villages, and suburbs found near the airport include Oakhill, Priston, Radstock, and Ston Easton.
