Cheddi Jagan International Airport – GEO
Previously named Timehri International Airport, Cheddi Jagan International Airport is a national public airport located in Timehri, about 25 miles from southern Georgetown, Guyana. It serves the capital city of the country and is currently operated by the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) Corporation. The airfield, which was formerly a bomber airfield under the United States Army, was initially named in honor of Lieutenant Colonel Bert M. Atkinson but was renamed to Timehri International Airport in 1969. It wasn’t until 1997 when GEO- Cheddi Jagan International Airport was changed to its current name after the late President Dr.Cheddi Jagan.

Cheddi Jagan International Airport features two asphalt runways, four boarding bridges, and six ground-level gates. Handling over 600,000 passengers annually, the airport was recently modernized and expanded under a $150 million project. This extended the runway to 10,500 feet and constructed a new terminal building with larger passenger capacity. There are only five airlines landing in the airport, which offers scheduled flights to some parts of the US and Europe.
