Newark Liberty International Airport was previously known as Newark Metropolitan Airport then Newark International Airport. The international airport is located between Newark and Elizabeth, in which it is also owned by the same cities. Its operation is under the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. After the 9/11 Attack where the aircraft from Newark was in transit to New Jersey was hijacked, the airport’s name was changed to Newark Liberty International Airport, to pay tribute to the victims and the Statue of Liberty.
