It is a civil-military airport that is located in Birmingham, Alabama and serves the city area including Tuscaloosa. Its airport code, BHM, stands for the city’s name. In 1931, the airport was opened after construction. During World War II, the Birmingham Army Airfield was used as a military air base. Later, it was named Birmingham Municipal Airport, then Birmingham International Airport and in 2008, it got its present name. As of the year 2018, the airport has handled 2,972,776 passengers.
