Athens International Airport Eleftherios Venizelos (ATH) is recognized as Greece’s biggest international airport. This major airport took its name after Eleftherios Venizelos, the country’s Prime Minister who played a huge role in Greek aviation. ATH-Athens officially opened in 2001, which became the central hub of Aegean Airlines including other minor local airlines. This airport was built to take over the Athens Ellinikon International Airport, which is now out of service. In 2018, ATH attended to a record high of 24.1 million flyers.
This airport has two terminals divided into the main and satellite terminal and are linked by an underground connection. Currently, there are plans to extend the airport with the objective of accommodating 50 million passengers in the future.
