Pros: Extremely well restored and beautiful older building, in a very tasteful style, with large rooms, and fairly quiet on our upper floor. The location was very good, away from the madness of Canal Street, yet convenient via the St. Charles streetcar outside the hotel, or taxi. It was on the edge of the Arts District (very good galleries) and the WWII museum which is close enough to walk to. And there were several excellent restaurants within a block or two.

Cons: It would have been nice to have breakfast options inside or next to the hotel instead of just an expensive dinner only restaurant. Even morning coffee in the lobby would have been a nice simple touch. There was only a tiny coffee maker with a bad grade of coffee in the rooms (bring your own), and no tea. Fortunately there were several good coffee shops 2 blocks away, my fave being French Truck for the best au laits and pastry I had in town. It would also be nice to have an exercise room with a few bikes and treadmills.

Pros: I like the old fawlty towers vibe and the location is great.

Cons: It's owned by Wyndham, so you can expect a generally lower quality hotel. I had a balcony room but I couldn't actually access the balcony. Some fixtures were rusty, there are no robes, showers are cold, I had to request soap for the room, etc. The biggest issue is they charged my card the full amount of stay some ~6 months in advance; I've never had a hotel do that before.

Pros: The location was good for my purposes. Relatively quiet and close to the convention center. It's also reasonably close to the French Quarter, if you are looking for entertainment. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable.

Cons: There was constant noise outside from some fans or some kind of machinery, either from the hotel itself or the adjacent federal building. It was usually not too loud, so no problem to fall asleep, but cannot say this made for a comfortable atmosphere. I imagine anybody staying on that side of the building gets exposed to the same noise. One night, the noise picked up a notch or two, and then it was actually hard to get back too sleep. Another night, some guy was talking in a loud voice while pacing up and down the hallway, apparently giving some kind of sermon to an imaginary audience. This lasted for about 10 minutes or so. It may well have been a homeless person; I didn't get the impression that there was much in terms of security. The staff was nice enough but not too reliable. I told them I would need to check out early in the morning to catch my flight. They said no problem, the reception is 24/7, and they also supposedly reserved a taxi for me. On the morning of my departure, there was, of course, nobody at the reception and no taxi to be seen either. Eventually, the staff did show up and told me their colleague probably just forgot to order a taxi. Anyway, they called a taxi right then and it showed up a few minutes later, so no big problem, but can't say this episode impressed me too much. Overall, at ~ $250/night, I think this was way too expensive. Maybe prices were higher than usual due to the convention, and maybe other hotels in the area are similar. But I think I will try my luck elsewhere, if I ever visit New Orleans again.
