About Howard Johnson By Wyndham Brand Hotels

Howard Johnson, founded by Howard Deering Johnson, is an American hotel chain and motels located mainly all over Canada and United States. Apart from hotels, Howard Johnson was once a chain of restaurants for more than 90 years. After his success in the restaurant business, Johnson decided to venture in the hotel industry. Howard Johnson motels and hotels are currently part of Wyndham Worldwide.

It was in 1954 that the very first Howard Johnson’s motor lodge was opened. The first branch was located in Savannah, Georgia. Over the years their restaurant business and motels have grown drastically. By 1961, they already have 605 restaurants wherein in 265 of them was company owned and the rest was franchised. Their Howard Johnson’s motor lodges had also been franchised in The Bahamas and in 32 states.

Today, Howard Johnson is operated by Wyndham under a number of tiers based on services offered, amenities and price. When Wyndham took over some of their hotel, rooms were renovated providing guests with a more comfortable stay. They also have hotels that are pet-friendly and has large swimming pools for a morning or afternoon dip. How could we stay in...

Cons: What we didn't like was the fact that when we tried to get a shuttle in the freezing weather and finally reached the hotel, due to the kindness of another lovely shuttle driver, THE HOTEL HAD BEEN CLOSED FOR ABOUT 8 MONTHS. WHY WERE WE NOT INFORMED AND NOW WE ARE EXPECTED TO RATE A HOTEL WE COULDN'T STAY IN? Up to 2 days before we were meant to stay, we were getting emails from Booking.com advising of the attractions available in Queens. The only attractive happenings for us on Saturday was the kindness of the people who went out of their way to help us and to organize another hotel for us.

Cons: I had a horrendous experience with this hotel. I couldn't contact the hotel to get an airport trafer and ended up having to sleep on the airport floor overnight. The phones to call the hotel were all out of order and when I phoned from my mobile phone I constantly got a message saying the line was busy and I could not be connected. The experience was particularly bad given this was part of almost 2 days of travelling and arriving in new York almost at midnight.

Cons: No room, hotel had become a hostel. Rude reception, trashy entrance. Thank goodness for the taxi driver who wouldn''t leave us at 02:30.

Don't go.

Cons: The property cancelled my stay last minute due to plumbing issues (which is fine!), but they refused to refund my money even though they were the ones that cancelled my stay. I had to find a last minute room in NYC which is a lot harder than you might think. I contacted the property for a refund and the staff was incredibly rude and hateful and said they're not responsible for my refund.

Cons: First of all my credit card was charged 6 mo ahead. I didn't stay in this hotel yet. When I saw charges on credit card, called hotel. Was told that they will call me back. That never happened. When arrived in NY, was trying to call this hotel for shuttle, phone was never answered. I have only negative experience with this particular hotel management.

There at noon and again, handy cap..NO sign out front...just HOTEL...staff NOT FRIENDLY at all
