Talisay: Of Sugars and State Ruins
Talisay City in Negros Occidental is another city with a similar name as that of two other cities in the Philippines. Not to be confused with the others, Talisay is nestled in an island rich with sugarcane plantations. Its history dates back to when Negritos and Malay settled in the area during the late 1780s. It was then known as Minuluan.
Best Time to Visit
While it is ideal to visit the city during March and April when it is the warmest and there is little to no chance of rainfall, it is also the busiest for Talisay Philippines as many travelers frequent during said months. If you want to avoid the tourist crowd and score cheaper Talisay hotels, come around September when the weather is still favorable but there is a higher chance of rainfall. On the good side, you will get to experience the three-day Minuluan Festival.
What to Do & Area Attractions
Often overlooked, most especially by foreign visitors, Talisay actually has a lot to offer. From luscious fruit crops to preserved historical landmarks, there is plenty to do and to see in the city. With its beautiful garden and romantic fairytale vibe, The Ruins is a favorite destination in the city. Be in awe at the more than a hundred-year old stone house, Balay ni Tana Dicang, which is now a museum. Most of the Talisay hotels are pretty far from the city proper. It takes about 20 to 30 minutes to reach cozy hotels such as O Hotel, MO2 Westown Hotel – Mandalagan, and GO Hotels Bacolod.
