It was in 1954 that the very first Howard Johnson’s motor lodge was opened. The first branch was located in Savannah, Georgia. Over the years their restaurant business and motels have grown drastically. By 1961, they already have 605 restaurants wherein in 265 of them was company owned and the rest was franchised. Their Howard Johnson’s motor lodges had also been franchised in The Bahamas and in 32 states.

Today, Howard Johnson is operated by Wyndham under a number of tiers based on services offered, amenities and price.
