Lusaka International Airport – LUN
Formerly known as Lusaka International Airport, Kenneth Kaunda International Airport is a civilian and military-type airport offering flights to international destinations. It is located in Lusaka, Zambia and was officially renamed in 2011 after the first president of the country, Kenneth Kaunda. Standing at about 16 miles from the northeastern side of the capital of Zambia, LUN serves Lusaka and its neighboring towns as well.
Best Time to Visit
The LUN-Kenneth Kaunda International Airport was constructed to handle two million passengers annually, but the latest 2018 statistics account for just over 1.3 million passengers. There are two runways in the airport, the asphalt-paved stretching to almost 13,000 feet and the grass runway stretching to 2,700 feet. In 2015, the government funded a US$360 million expansion project of the airport which aimed to construct a two-story terminal building, 12 border channels, 22 check-in counters, and a new hotel, among others. There are currently over ten airlines landing at the airport that offers flights across Africa and some nearby Asian countries. Lusaka International Airport is also a hub for Proflight Zambia, the airline which owns the biggest fleet of aircraft in the country. From LUN, enjoy sightseeing at the neighboring town of Chiawa Conservancy.
