Emerald – A Charming Little Village in Victoria
Emerald, Victoria is a charming suburb, not to be confused with the town of the same name in Queensland. The suburb is known for Emerald Lake and the Cardinia Reservoir, the second largest reservoir in Melbourne. It is also known for chanterelles as well as other edible mushrooms. In fact, Emerald becomes a popular destination for mushroom hunters each autumn season. For a small suburb, it holds a lot of festivals that beckon many locals and tourists to join each year including the Emerald FunFest, Great Train Race, and PAVE Arts Festival. The nearest airport to Emerald is the Melbourne Airport which is an hour and 8 minutes away.
Best Time to Visit
The best time to visit Emerald, Victoria are the months of January, March, April, November, and December. Visitors will enjoy many outdoor activities without the threat of sunburn or being too cold. May and February are often avoided because it is the wettest and warmest months respectively. But, visitors may be able to get a hotel room for a much more affordable rate especially with little tourists around.

When in the suburb of Emerald, don’t miss to visit the Emerald Lake, also known as Lake Treganowan. There’s a children’s playground, a pool, paddle boats and even walking tracks and fishing amenities available. There are plenty of things to do alone or with the whole family. The Puffing Billy Railway is also another popular attraction in Emerald. It is a heritage steam operated railway that can be traced as far back as the 1900s.
