They were pretty decent at affordable rates, and such was not yet available in the Netherlands.

So in the late 1980s, Van Veldhoven established Bastion Hotels. He made sure that the hotels were accessible and had 24/7 reception desks. Since Bastion Hotels was the first of its kind in the Netherlands, it easily took off and grew.
