About Newport Hotel Group Bourne
Newport Hotel Group is a chain of eight boutique hotels across individual locations in New England, as well as one property in Wyoming. This second-generation family business headquartered in Rhode Island has beachfront, harbor front and mountain locations with distinctive luxury features. Its management team boasts a combine more than a century of experience in the hotel and real estate sector.
Newport Hotel Group was founded by siblings Jon and Douglas Cohen, who both worked in their family restaurant – the Millstone Village Inn in North Attleboro, MA, and hotel business Hotel Viking in Newport, RI at a young age of 7 and 5, respectively. Both properties were purchased by Dr. Earle Cohen, their father in the 1970s. The brothers formed Newport Hotel Group in the 1990s with the Hotel Viking as their first business venture. Their teamwork was successful in growing the hotel’s occupancy rate in 1999 to 76% from 40%. Hotel Viking was sold to LaSalle Hotel Properties on the same year but continued to be under Newport Hotel Group’s management for the next several years. The group continued to oversee the daily operations, expansion, and renovations of the hotel.
Newport Hotel Group currently manages over a dozen hotels, ranging from boutique to full-service convention properties in six states, representing over 2,000 rooms.
