Back in 2017, the airport was one of the several locations in India and Nepal, which was heavily, flooded forcing the terminal to temporarily suspend their operations.

The Nepalese Army Air Service is also accommodated in the airport. Nearby Biratnagar is one of the nearby cities to the airport and the fourth largest city in Nepal.
