TheCitizenM Hotel chain is an expansive network of luxury hotels spanning several continents including Asia, America, and Europe. In the beginning of 2019, the brand expanded their coverage to include China, putting up affordable luxury in one of the most trafficked spots in Taipei. The brand new building with its 303 rooms sits in what is known as the city’s business district.

The chain started in the Netherlands, gaining the distinction of being the first hotel in Amsterdam Schiphol Airport. Operations started in 2008 and quickly grew, allowing the company to open another hotel in Amsterdam by 2009, a Glasgow branch in 2010 and another one in London by 2012.

Staying true to their international mark in the hospitality business, CitizenM makes uses of an international ambience in all their hotels. Their buildings are characterized by large windows, colorful arts, and cozy lobbies that resemble living rooms due to the books and art décor. It’s a very modern ambience with guests able to check themselves in and out through the kiosks. This means that the hotels do not have bellhops – making it ideal for travelers who prefer the simplicity of walking in and out of their accommodation. The uniqueness of the hotel has earned it Fodor’s 100 Hotel Award for Design in 2011, given to the 2009 Amsterdam hotel.
