Rotorua Regional Airport – ROT
The Rotorua Regional Airport is one of the 62 airports in New Zealand. It is located in the suburb of Rotokawa 6 km northeast of Rotorua CBD, New Zealand and serves the city and the nearby towns. The Rotorua Regional Airport, whose airport code is ROT, was officially opened in 1964 as a replacement of the old Whakarewarewa Aerodrome. Increase of its main runway’s length underwent intense process and court battles before finally approved in 2008. This increase has allowed AirBus A320 to operate flights to Australia. Thus, it was renamed Rotorua International Airport to suit services to Australia. But in 2015, the airport authorities decided to focus on domestic routes and international services was finally ended.

The ROT-Rotorua Regional Airport terminal is composed of a two-storey building and six gates. Café, bookstore, and conference room can be found inside the terminal building. Both the north and the south of the main terminal have general aviation hangars. The airport has two runways, the long and the short with asphalt as the surface which cannot be used simultaneously. The airline which served the airport is Air New Zealand’s regional subsidiaries with flights to Wellington and Aukland. Hauparu, Horohoro, and Kawaha Point are the best and the nearest places you can visit from Rotorua Airport.
