Labuan Airport – LBU Labuan, Malaysia
Labuan Airport (LBU) provides service to the federal territory of Labuan, Malaysia. It sits around 2.5 km from the main city and is currently undergoing renovations to accommodate larger aircrafts. Despite that, plans to turn the facility into a regional hub for connecting flights were diverted due to the unsustainability of the location. Today, the airport accommodates several airlines like AirAsia, Malaysia Airlines and Malindo Air, all of which have Kuala Lumpur destinations.
Best Time to Visit
If the plans for the airport push through, the facility should be able to handle aircrafts the like of Boeing 747 and the Airbus A330. In the year 2008, it actually accommodated close to 600,000 passengers and around 4,500 metric tonnes of cargo. This is done via close to 12,000 aircraft movements. More passengers are expected over the coming years, especially since the airport was built to accommodate as much as 1.2 million passengers. From the airport, you can quickly access the beauty Manukan Island, which is home to Malaysia’s first national Marine Park. There’s also the neighboring city of Kundasang with its War Memorial and Gardens.
What to Do & Area Attractions
As for hotels, passengers can take advantage of nearby accommodations like the Summer Beach Lodge with a distance of just .8 miles from the airport. There’s also Hotel Labuan Point with a distance of a mile and known for their excellent meals and strategic location. Having the same distance is the hotel for backpackers, Transit Hotel. The Tiara Labuan Hotel is also a wonderful option to stay.
Alternative airports include the BKI-Kota Kinabalu International Airport at Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia which is perhaps more crowded than LBU.
