Leopold Sedar Senghor International Airport – DKR Dakar
Dakar, Senegal is the capital city in which the international airport is located. It is situated north of Dakar particularly near the town of Yoff; thus, it was known before to be Dakar-Yoff International Airport. In honor of Leopold Sedar Senghor, Senegal’s first president, it is now called the Leopold Sedar Senghor International Airport. Like other airports, it was formerly used during the World War II. Soon after, it became a significant stopover point of long-range jets for routes between Europe and South America until it became a public airport for tourists. Based on 2013 statistics, the airport already has served approximately 2,200,000 passengers.

Leopold Sedar Senghor International Airport is both a public and military airports. Aside from being an airport serving tourists going to and from Senegal, its military section houses the French Air Force’s Dakar-Ouakam Air Base. The airport is built on 800 hectares of land with a fence 10-mile long and two runways. It also has cafeterias, restaurants, money exchange counters, help desks, a Duty Free shop, and car rental and taxi services. DKR Airport nearby cities include, Goree Island, Ngor and Yof.
