Howard Johnson, founded by Howard Deering Johnson, is an American hotel chain and motels located mainly all over Canada and United States. Apart from hotels, Howard Johnson was once a chain of restaurants for more than 90 years. After his success in the restaurant business, Johnson decided to venture in the hotel industry. Howard Johnson motels and hotels are currently part of Wyndham Worldwide.
It was in 1954 that the very first Howard Johnson’s motor lodge was opened. The first branch was located in Savannah, Georgia. Over the years their restaurant business and motels have grown drastically. By 1961, they already have 605 restaurants wherein in 265 of them was company owned and the rest was franchised. Their Howard Johnson’s motor lodges had also been franchised in The Bahamas and in 32 states.
Today, Howard Johnson is operated by Wyndham under a number of tiers based on services offered, amenities and price. When Wyndham took over some of their hotel, rooms were renovated providing guests with a more comfortable stay. They also have hotels that are pet-friendly and has large swimming pools for a morning or afternoon dip. Howard Johnson offers discount to their guests like auto club member discount, and save at least 15% if you book early.
