Pros: We love staying in The Rees Hotel & Luxury Apartments. I am always a bit anxious when travelling with families. But I'm glad we had a decent stay for 5 nights. The hotel apartments are beautiful and the food at the restaurant was delicious. Kids' meals were NZD12 in a big portion(See photo fish and chips). Hotel service was great! The location, the views, and everything else were just wonderful! Highly recommended it if you are going to queenstown.

Cons: The shuttle bus service could be more frequently.

Bad personal experiences on the...

Pros: The room was great. We were upgraded to a 3 bedroom apartment while we had booked a 2 bedroom apartment. Could have been because our apartment was fully booked. The staff was very courteous and friendly.

Cons: Quite a few things that we didn't like: 1. There was water leaking from one of the rooms' ceiling on the carpeted area. It was a continuous drip. When mentioned it to the front desk, they just said that they will have the maintenance team take a look at it. 2. Right after we checked in someone from the staff knocked on the door and before any one of us could get to the door they barged in. I saw them while they were leaving the room. When I asked what happened they said they were checking the minibar stock. I found it very strange that the staff was checking the minibar stock right after the guests had checked into the room. Also, I found this a huge invasion of our privacy. We were taken aback by this invasion from the staff member. 3. There was a false fire alarm (at least that is what the staff claimed) at 12:15 AM. This disrupted everyone's sleep and we had to step out in our night robes in the freezing Queenstown weather for a good 15 minutes. We could not sleep well after that thinking what if there was a real fire. 4. We were given a room that I think had the worst view of all in the hotel. The floor that we were staying on had a mountain view and a lake view room. The lake view room was in front of the mountain view room, hence our mountain view was being obstructed by other rooms. 5. Found the price to be too high for the vicinity.

Bland and Overated.

Pros: Just an opinion but considered by us as being largely overated for a 5 star hotel. Felt like a concrete car park. In practice the room/rooms was/are accessed every time by walking across the indoor car park from/to reception and the restaurant/s, bars. We were on a two month multi stop trip, Dubai, Singapore, Perth, Sydney, Auckland, Bangkok etc, this stay (hotel wise) was one of the lower points in our trip.

Cons: More specifically, the aspect of the hotel (visited in January, being NZ summertime) apparently saw little Sun/warmth on the balcony/balconies. The Breakfast was generally poor at this rating level, too small a Breakfast room therefore overcrowded, and why oh why are the plates in hotels, particularly at this level of hotel, stone cold ?

Cons: We thought that being built on the side of the lake there would be better views, but the hotel has built another block in front of the first one, so the occupants of those rooms look into your room as they’re walking to access their room!! They can also see right into your bathroom from their walkway!! You can’t sit out on your balcony having a glass of wine looking at the mountain tops ( because you can’t see the lake due to your be building right in front) without everyone seeing you there is little privacy unless you put down the blockout shutters which means you can’t see any view at all. Not sure why you e paid so much money for the room. It’s a completely ridiculous design. I’ve no idea how they got planning permission for it. The glass wall that gives everyone in and outside of the room a great view of you on the toilet is also a concerning feature. Surely most people go to Queenstown for the spectacular views, not the room!
