Great location, but not a...

Pros: The location is great.

Cons: The hotel lacked cleanliness in the room, the floors were dirty, as evident by my socks and the sheets had the previous guest's hair. The bed was not comfortable, as the mattress was worn and worn out, it squeaked so much, just even us turning in bed during the night. Most hotels provide free toothbrush, if you forget it at home, not this hotel; but at least the Walgreens was around the corner. I wouldn't stay in this hotel again.

Close proximity to sites

Pros: The location and price for 1 night for a quick stop over in NYC was brilliant. The size of the room was big as well considering the proximity to Broadway.

Cons: The bed was super squeaky so any small movement could be heard. We were also startled awake at 2.30am to what can only be described as a gurgling coming from the radiator in the room (we think) it gave us such a fright we had to check someone wasn’t trying to get in the window, which would have been impossible. This noise then happened again at 4 & 6am. We then had the pleasure of listening to the man next door on the toilet in the early hours of the morning. I think the radiator or pipes needed bleeding as this is all we could figure was the source of the noise. A very noisy stay, appreciate it’s an old building but we’ve stayed in older in other cities and not had this problem.

Unfortunately a disappointing stay.

Pros: The location is fantastic if you want to be right near Times Square. Was also walking distance to the Rockefeller Centre. House keeping was good.

Cons: I don't hardly ever leave a low review but after 3 weeks traveling and some good accommodation this hotel was sadly very disappointing. I had booked based on guest reviews, the location and the pictures. The pictures suggest a hotel with character. Unfortunately the character was not enough to make up for the condition and lack of basic nessesities. Our room had two double beds which were very uncomfortable, we rolled into the sink hole in the middle and they squeaked at every adjustment. There was no remote for the aircon/heating, a tiny bathroom with no bench storage space or room to hang wet towels for a family of 4. No jug, fridge or microwave, very limited facilities. The extreme condensation on windows that would pool on the window ledge every morning was the finishing touch. Room supposedly suitable for 4 people and was just too small. Wouldn't recommend it, just wasn't comfortable after long days walking the city.

Pros: The location couldn't be more perfect - right in the heart of New York City, with easy access to all the attractions and amenities. The staff were incredibly accommodating and friendly, ensuring our every need was met. The rooms were cozy and well-appointed, providing a comfortable retreat after a day of exploring the bustling city. Thank you, Hotel S.James, for making our trip truly memorable. We can't wait to return!❤️

Cons: The century-old heater was making super loud noise at midnight that at first I thought the room was haunted. Lack of basic amenities such as kettle (to make hot water) or a cooler (to store some leftovers)

Pros: Location first but also proper reception team and lounge area downstairs - helps with recharge of batteries, getting ready for next day and help if needed - the team there booked us a taxi for the airport.

Cons: No heating in room or bathroom (we went in March).

Pros: Amazing location if you want to be near times square. Close to the hustle bustle but on a side street where its not crazy and crowded. Very clean rooms and friendly staff. I was happy with what i paid vs what i got.

Cons: Looks like plumbing is old, there was some noise first night we stayed. Easy to hear other guests in other rooms or in corridors however people were not too loud. Outdated hotel with no rooftop view or coffee/water machines. The room i stayed in though was renovated which was nice.

Not worth the price.

Pros: Great location

Cons: The hotel is tired, old and not entirely 100% clean. One elevator was covered in brown material and the hallway up to our room was covered in plastic which was not very inviting. The window blinds were broken, but the view was not worth seeing. Lots of ledges covered in pigeon poo, overlooking other rooms.
