Wonderful
Perfect for solo traveler in need of some respite from the crowds of Rome.
Pros: The garden. Being able to eat in the hotel after a long day at work.
Cons: Tiny room. Unfortunately I had dogs staying in either side of me that barked at each other at unsociable hours & woke me up several times. I love dogs, this was the owners who were irresponsible

Pros: The hotel is close to Rome's central station and around the Colosseum about a 20-minute walk away."The breakfast was fresh and delicious, and I never got tired of eating it in three days."
Cons: "The room I used had a refrigerator, but it was a shame that there was no water heater."

Poor
Very disappointing indeed.
Pros: The only positive was that the hotel had good access to the Termini Rail and short walks to the sights.
Cons: We booked the Select Garden hotel and when we were trying to find the hotel we couldn't, this was because the hotel was actually called Astoria Garden Hotel. The room was very small, last decorated sometime in the 80's it seemed with lots of damage to wall paper and the wall themselves. The bathroom was tiny and again in desperate need of replacing there was mould in the shower, and for 1 day we didn't have hot water. The overwhelming smell of damp hit you when you walked into the room. Thankfully we were only ever in the room to sleep but I would not recommend this hotel what so ever.

Poor
Terrible stay, damp, and peeling walls, unsafe for women travellers.
Pros: Great location for the centre of rome.
Cons: This was quite possibly the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. Our room had peeling wallpaper and damp on the walls. It also smelled of damp. Our towels were dirty when we arrived and our bathroom was not cleaned some days.
The worst part of the experience happened when returning from dinner one evening. For context we are two young women who were travelling alone. A man was operating the reception desk who we had not met before. We asked him where we could find drinking water. After answering our question he began to compliment us over and over and ask when we arrived and how long we were staying. Things turned more sinister when he then asked us what room number we were in. We proceeded to walk away and head up the stairs, during which the whole time he repeated what room number? Tell me what room number. We felt very unsafe and barricaded our door with a chair. I would never stay here again and would not recommend it to anyone.

Good
Rome is amazing and the hotel is in a great location. It's good but could be better.
Pros: Location, walking distance to main train station. Good breakfast. Second room was very clean and comfortable. Exotic garden for breakfast and drinks. Friendly and helpful staff - e.g. we asked to change rooms and this was not a problem.
Cons: The Select Garden Hotel doesn't seem to exist - it's the Astoria Garden Hotel. The Select was a little difficult to locate. We found it when we noticed a small note on the door to a closed hotel next to the Astoria. The first room we were allocated was depressing, and for six nights, unacceptable - half size wardrobe three coat hangers, little space to even move around the bed and nowhere to store our two suitcases. The garden is lovely - quite exotic BUT there is a serious problem with pigeons at breakfast time. When a table is vacated there is a feeding frenzy, with a dozen or so birds, for the left overs. The tables really should be sprayed after clearing and not wiped down with a damp cloth. We and others at breakfast found this quite disgusting and a real health hazard. This urgently needs to be addressed.

One of Romes hidden gems.
Pros: Great breakfast and very good valued high quality offerings in the restaurant bar/ learning how to make a classic Negroni with Peter, and the garden at breakfast(anytime) which was a welcome respite from the hubbub of the city- a quiet , sociable time shared with fellow travellers and Romes in the know. Smaller, but clean rooms (and great beds), located in one of the best outbound, discovery locations for Rome.
Cons: Not much to say- Good value for the amenities, location and personell.
