Overall, a beautiful hotel property...

Pros: The location, the hotel garden courtyard and the path along the perimeter with the artwork installations. The high quality materials used for the room decor. The detail & thought put into the holiday decorations. The spa was lovely. Beautiful Moroccan vibe & great massage - although the pool area is under construction, would’ve been a better experience.

Cons: I didn’t like that the valet attendant wanted to charge me $7 to leave my car to check in! The hotel parking situation is a nightmare and we paid $40 per day to self park. The beds were hard and worse, the pillows were bricks! One couple didn’t stay the second night & opted to sleep at home. We asked to bring in feather down pillows the second night & it helped. There usually are extra blankets & pillows in a drawer or closet. This hotel, there are none. Would’ve been nice to throw on an extra blanket on a cold rainy night! The Goldfinch Restaurant portions are way too small for the price we paid. $18 for a small cup of steel oats oatmeal and $25 for a large bowl of small salad.

Cons: The neighbors were loud and easy to hear. The heat was very loud when the fan came on and off. The pillows were not comfortable and the added fees were plentiful. 39 daily resort fee for what I’m not sure. 35 daily self parking and 150 cleaning fee for pets who were spotless.

Might be OK when construction...

Cons: The hotel pool was under construction - like completely shut with a big chunk of the property off limits. Wish I had known this when we booked. Also, spa was quite snooty - wanted to go in the steam room w/o booking a massage and they were quite snarky about it.

Pros: Room was beautiful, loved the seating area. Beautiful property to walk. Staff was a 10 out of 10

Cons: The patio, small, not inviting and only 1 chair. I would t pay for the upgrade again.

Unfortunate Experience

Pros: The grounds are beautiful, lush with gardens. The Estancia in Bloom at Goldfinch was lovely; Sean was great.

Cons: The room was advertised as two queen beds, but they were clearly full size. The bathroom, toilet room has some dirty drippings on the wall behind the door. The initial front desk staff weren't very helpful, or friendly. As a local we were coming for a work related staycation. Celebrating a team member who was recently engaged, I asked if there were any possible room upgrades available. Not only was that not acknowledged, but they gave us a room directly next to a wedding ceremony happening on property. Although we arrived early, in hopes of checking in early; there was not a room for us until after 3. By the time we went to check in, we had to shuffle our bags past the wedding guests, and quietly try to get into our room without disturbing the ceremony. Unfortunately one of the keys I was given to the room wasn't working, so I went back to the front desk to replace it. While waiting my turn, I see the front desk attendants talking to a couple about upgrading their room. Additionally the other attendant was being very thorough in letting the guest know about the ins and outs of the property. When I checked in I was simply given a map, and told my room was down the hall to the elevator, 1st floor. It just wasn't the level of service I was expecting from Estancia. Although, all of the valet team were very helpful in holding our car, and bags while we waited for our room; and again in the morning while we checked out and had breakfast. I've stayed at numerous "luxury" properties in San Diego. Overall, for the cost and reputation of Estancia; I was pretty disappointed.

Pros: Loved the property itself was beautiful and relaxing. Was just what we needed for a weekend recharge will definitely be returning.

Cons: I wish the rooms were a little bit cleaner when we arrived. Housekeeping quickly came and addressed our issues but only issue we had.
