Great place to stay if...

Pros: The view was great. If you can get an ocean front room on floors 6-8 you won't be disappointed with the view. The hotel was close to Mauna Kea, the Volcano National Park, the zoo, and many other attractions on the Hilo side of the Big Island. There also were many great beach parks nearby that were good for seeing fish and sea turtles. We loved the little convenience store right outside the hotel and Coconut Island.

Cons: While the room was clean and the staff was very friendly, the hotel could use some updating inside and out. The carpet in the hallway and the room was a bit old. The outside of the building made it seem older but the rooms were fine.

Pros: We had booked another hotel in Hilo before arriving but that hotel was scary and we didn’t feel comfortable staying there. Upon arrival we booked at the Hilo Hawaiian and within twenty minutes we were in our room and felt much safer and felt like it was more comfortable.

Pros: Location was amazing. Staff was friendly and helpful. I got everything I requested when booking. Food was great. Within walking distance to the beautiful Liliuokalani Gardens, and Coconut Island. Property felt safe and clean.

Cons: Bathroom was not up kept very well: toilet paper holder broken, cracked paint/floor in shower. Wish there was a microwave. It seemed as though a lot of people who were not patrons of the hotel were all over the grounds.

Disappointing

Cons: Phone wasnt working so I had to go down to the lobby to request for some towels. I mentioned to the gentleman working that the tv and phone in the room were not working but he didnt seem to care.

Pros: Property was a good location. Clean room and wonderful shower.

Cons: They only allowed one guest per room complimentary breakfast. Breakfast was nothing but sweets. If you wanted savory you had to purchase. We had to leave hotel at 5:30 am and they had no coffee available in the lobby.

Pros: Big room, very comfortable, spectacular views. Staff were friendly.

Cons: First 24h were amazing. Couldn't fault it. Then we got an upstairs neighbour that smoked. Turns out level 18 can smoke on balconies. But this meant we couldnt use our balcony or leave the doors open without smelling smoke. We called reception but they just said level 18 allowed to smoke. There was also loud banging in the hall from 7am by housekeeping moving trolleys around every morning and drilling and hammering on one day. Made the rest of our stay pretty miserable.

Wonderful

This hotel is a great...

Pros: Our room was a seventh floor ocean view with two queen beds. It had a spectacular view of Hilo bay and gorgeous grounds with natural lava pools. The room was very large, clean and quiet. It is only steps away from one of the most beautiful parks in Hawaii and a wonderful little art gallery. We loved it!

Cons: The location is perfect but we were glad to see efforts going on to improve the neighboring properties that have sadly deteriorated. It is too lovely to lose the stunning heritage and beauty of this area— we have faith that things will improve!
