Founded in 1903, Taj Hotels Resorts & Palaces is renowned worldwide as one of the finest and largest group of hotels in Asia. It is an Indian Hotels Company Limited subsidiary based in Mumbai, and a part of India’s largest business conglomerates, the Tata Group. As of 2018, a total of 100 hotels and resorts are operated by the company, with 84 of these located across India. The other 16 Taj establishments are located in other countries that include Malaysia, Maldives, the United Kingdom, Sri Lanka, and the United States of America.
Since the 1970s, the hotel group has been acquiring royal palaces and converting them into luxury hotels.
