About BD Hotels - Independent Brand Hotels

Wanting to provide affordable, convenient, and practical accommodation solutions in one of the world’s busiest and most visited cities, New York City (NYC), Richard Born and Ira Drukier founded BD Hotels. Basically, the company operates capsule hotels in NYC. Currently, it manages 24 properties all over the city, including Bowery, Jane, and Maritime.

Prior to establishing BD Hotels, Born and Drukier founded The Pod Hotel. It was in the early 2000s when they first realized the need to offer small rooms with basic amenities. Of course, the goal is to provide these accommodation services without compromising convenience, practicality, and most importantly, customer satisfaction. However, at the time, the concept was still not that welcomed in the industry. Today, capsule hotels have transformed the hospitality market around the world. They have become the perfect option for backpackers who only need the bare minimum— a place to crash every night.

Excellent location. Very small bunk rooms with no communal space whilst construction works happening

Pros: Excellent location for Hudson River Park and Highline
Cons: Major construction on hotel made for very unattractive approach to rooms plus no communal space given small bunk room

Just a fast overnight stay, but I really liked the place. Cant wait to see after the renovations are done

Pros: It was a glimpse into old old New York. The place wasnt glamorous, but it was super cute and kitschy.

Fine

Pros: I love the location of The Jane close to subway and on a quiet street. Staff are friendly and the shared bathrooms are always clean
Cons: The rooms are so small it is fine if you just need a place to sleep for max 2 nights, but thats it. Theres no space in the room for chair/table; just about enough space for a very narrow bed. Due to renovations there are absolutely no dining/drink options available currently so it is just a bed for the night.

Live on construction site witt all common areas closed

Pros: Everything under renovation, you live on a construction site incl a massive one opposite with heavy noise. All common areas are closed. Was a super disappointing stay especially for this price. Location is great close west village. Wish sites like booking would make signs more obvious that there are works.
Cons: See above

Not worth the 200 dollars per night

Pros: The location.
Cons: The hotel is going through intense renovation. You wake up and you see workmen everywhere. The bed is super uncomfortable and tiny.

It was like paying to stay in skid row.

Pros: Very little to like but the location.
Cons: Under construction. Wires hanging everywhere. Workers using the limited restrooms. Unhoused people in the tiny lobby.

Usually a very good& reliable stay in the best part of manhattan

Pros: Love the Jane. The staff that work there are incredible. Always so friendly & always helpful and available. Theyre one of the best assets about staying at The Jane. The location is fantastic & I love the uniqueness of the hotel. And is really quiet!
Cons: I love The Jane. This is my 6th stay at this location. However, this time there was no notice when i booked that there is ongoing construction work. That the hotel would be essentially a building site. Which means it was pretty dirty in The corridors (very dusty). Signage for construction workers not to take lifts etc but they did. The builders kept using the only small guest bathroom for the floor (due to the usual bathroom area cut off with building work) and not putting the toilet seat down & peeing on the floor. Which you really dont want to come into. I paid the same money (if not more than usual) & had significantly less access. If I had known the situation, I probably would have booked a different location. Would have been nice for a heads up on the upgrading construction work ongoing when I booked.

Un caring staff but also some very nice staff.

Pros: The guy on the desk was very couldnt care less but the morning staff were very helpful.
Cons: The show was nice and private with a lock on the door. Also the money for the hotel went out of my account so I had to pay again so I paid twice nearly four hundred which left me very upset and short of money because the hotel said that they had not the money so Im owed almost two hundred pounds from booking.com .

Passable

Pros: I love the location and have stayed many time at the Jane before due to this. As well as other facilities such as the bar etc.
Cons: I was made aware that the Jane was under renovation, but never expected it to be as bad as it was. Hope for a better stay when things are done. I

Wonderful
Excellent choice for a solo traveller on a budget who values historic buildings and art galleries

Pros: Good location in my favourite district of New York. Very close to wonderful amenities. Excellent choice for a solo traveller on a budget who values historic buildings. It is not far from the Whitney museum and the South end of the High Line. The Staff are very nice too.
Cons: A visitor should know that this hotel is very very compact - like being on a ship -and the bathroom is shared. Also it is a historic building so there are not so many modern amenities. This second point is specific to this particular visit (Summer 2023; my second time to stay there) - There was building upgrades and refurbishment - which made the corridors a bit chaotic.

The room was literally the size of a walk in closet, very stuffy. One step above a park bench. with a strange smell. Do

Pros: Fantastic location, far West Village bear the river

Disappointing
ok, but not satisfied as much as used to be.

Pros: the place is efficient, great use of the space. A lot of small add-on.
Cons: the hotel is in renovation for the exterior, the restaurant, lounge, but I feel they also need a big clean up and update in the furniture, carpet . I used to come over that place, it was amazing, now its a bit lackluster. The mattress needs to be change- you could feel the spring in it- the lamp was broken, hanging over, the climatisation was noisy and could'nt be fix, up and down. The staff...depends on you deal with. Mostly good, except for the passive-agressive guy, who was strickly business, not interesting to make some small talk about the building, and show some impatience. And who the #$% is the old man sit down in the lobby all the time?

Pros: The guy on the desk was very couldnt care less but the morning staff were very helpful.
Cons: The show was nice and private with a lock on the door. Also the money for the hotel went out of my account so I had to pay again so I paid twice nearly four hundred which left me very upset and short of money because the hotel said that they had not the money so Im owed almost two hundred pounds from booking.com .

Fair

Poor

Disappointing
Maybe bad timing

Pros: I think it may have been a good hotel but somehow I missed the email that mentioned it being under renovation. The room I stayed in was so tiny...super intriguing to me. I was there only one night and I slept well so no issue. The bathroom situation on the other hand... not great

Poor
Too expensive private bathroom rooms. Air was very bad in the room, even by opening the window

Pros: Position
Cons: Everything else, especially the very dusty rooms
