Pros: Close to everything and the heritage was awesome. The photos upstairs are worth the walk up there to check out.

Cons: It can be a little noisy when people walk around upstairs but nothing to really complain about.

Pros: We booked the little house next to the hotel. It was expensive however it was a 2 room plus a huge bathroom with a spa bath. Private entrance and very quiet with a beautiful outlook over the bay watching the ferry come and go.

Cons: For the price they could have a continental breakfast basket in the room as a nice gesture.

Great Location

Pros: The location of the hotel was excellent - right next to the beach. And close to all nearby establishments for food and drink. We ate evening dinner and breakfast and both were great and reasonably priced - and in line with other places. Free parking!!

Cons: The noise in room 128 was not very good - right over the extraction for the kitchen (I was told by reception) so avoid if you want a good night sleep.

Pros: Excellent location next to the sea. Very nice old building. Old world at its best. Beautiful veranda to have dinner and breakfast. Very friendly staff.

Cons: The room was a bit small and by night there was humming noise coming up periodicly. That was not nice and spoiled the wounderfull stay a bit.

Historical romantic stay at the Duke of Marlborough.

Pros: This is a historical hotel, in a stunning and special spot!. I loved that it's not trying to be anything else. We had a king room with balcony (Room 102) that was spacious and comfortable. It was gorgeous to sit on the balcony looking out through the Pohutakawa trees, and then to take your meals in the hotel restaurant with uninterrupted views of the bay. Unfortunately we didn't have great weather, so didn't get the stunning sunsets that I know Russell is known for but that's okay because we will be back for another stay sometime in the future. Hot tip - wander the hall ways to view all the fabulous artwork on display and learn the history of the hotel and Russell while you are there.

Cons: We found the bed a bit hard for our liking but you can't meet every guests preferred bed firmness.

5 star family stay, 3 star food!

Pros: The rooms were very clean, had lots of natural light, and were well apointed with a modern design. The bathroom was spacious for a family of 3. The dining room, while small and located primarily outdoors, was comfortable. There was a nice gym, but no soaking pool.

Cons: The room's patio was not private, so we did not use it. The food selection in the restaurant was not very good. We had burnt eggs and small portions (even for European standards) for breakfast, and several lunch plates (we had 7) were very bland/lacking in flavor.
