Beautiful spot, nice resort with a few weak points

Pros: Amazing location on a perfect white beach, with lovely swimming in the sea. The resort is attractive and well run - mostly German/Swiss/Italian clientele. Staff are friendly. Very good snorkelling and manta excursions. Delicious buffet dinners. Good yoga classes. Very impressive checkout: they sent baggage ahead to airport and obtained boarding passes for us before we'd even left the hotel.

Cons: Some niggles, which should be better at this price point: - Poor selection at breakfast buffet - Extra charge (approx 15USD per day) for snorkelling equipment on top of expensive snorkelling trip - to rent their equipment for a week would cost more than to buy it new, so bring your own - No iron available to guests - Uncomfortably hard beds - Most of the gym equipment didn't work NB The hotel will not accept Maldivian currency. I was told by the hotel rep in Mal to change money before flying to the island, which I then couldn't use! Pretty scandalous really.

Cons: The only thing I wished was different was the dinner serving time. 8 p.m. was to late for me and my friend. If it was change to start at 7 p.m. it would be perfect.

Acceptable quality as first time Maldivian resort experience

Pros: Bed is big, shower is fine. Sunny day beach is excellent, snorkeling as well. water is transparent, no urchins, daisy parrot fish and unicorn fish was really impressive. BBQ was great, torso of lobster was around 40cm. Maldivian massage was explained as deep relaxation program, and it was literally deep relaxation program. I fell into sleep while massage.

Cons: Confusing hotel time, slow internet, many mosquitoes. Bar is far away from the hotel, you need to make 30 min trip with car and boat to drink just 1 glass of alcohol. Dinner time is too short so all the guests gather at the same time and hotel doesn't have enough tables to cover all the guests in new year time, so some guest need to wait until table become available. This is very stressful situation under hungry state, and it's double standard as well because paying same money. Gym facility is old school. The room was explained as soundproof in Booking.com but when I played music in the room not so loudly in daytime, hotel asked me to put less volume because neighbors are complaining about that. That's not soundproof. Sometime electricity stop without notification and if it happened, water stops as well. Sunset was like bronze medal.

Beautiful holiday by the sea.

Pros: I enjoyed my stay at Barefoot a lot, most of the time I was barefoot in fact. The room was beautiful, overlooking the sea. I loved the yoga practice in the mornings and there was a great selection of food in the buffet table, even for a vegetarian. The beach is absolutely beautiful, very relaxing holiday. I took part in several excursions and the guides always did their best that we would have a fantastic experience!

Splendid holidays

Pros: Relaxing vibe, spacious room with seaview, very friendly staff, good selection at the dinner buffet. Beachside calm and chilled. Architecture, garden and eco concept very well done! The pool was perfect for swimming and above all the ocean biologist did an amazing job offshore as well as during her tutorials. And yes, you really may walk barefoot all the time ;)

Cons: To further improve the eco concept I would ask the guests for waste separation in rooms as well. Massages were totally nice but could be offered for a lower price. Daily yoga classes were enjoyable but I wouldnt have minded more variations in the yoga programme over the week.

We had a beautiful stay at the barefoot hotel. The staff was super nice and the beach is stunning. We loved our stay.

Pros: It was clean and sustainable.

Cons: We were missing the traditional Maledivian food. Due to Corona the weekly Maledivian dinner night was cancelled.

Pros: The location of the Hotel is excellent. When You want to go to experience a one-lifetime adventure in the Maldives and You cannot afford the 5-star-resorts bungalow prices, but you don't want to stay at a guesthouse in a local village, or in a cityhotel, the Barefoot Eco Hotel is the perfect choice, I'd return tomorrow. It offers you wonderfull whitesand beach with palmtrees and azure ocean, how you imagine the Maldives, normal catering and other optional services on an acceptable price. The staff is kind and available.

Cons: The place is full of italian guests and some of them are really italian (shouting from long distance to each other, avoiding queues, leaving mess behind,...), but if you manage not to pay attention, or let all of these just entertain you, you're good. The other thing that disturbed us was that on all service the Hotel applies automaticaly 10% of service charge + local tax. Moreover you'll find everwhere tip boxes and in addition the staff comes to you stating that you're free to give them tips. I mean, the catering staff is kind, but sometimes between two mouthfulls you have 3 of them to ask:"hello Sir, how are you, how was your day?!" and on the third day, you feel it too much... Anyway nothing exceptional, I'd really return tomorrow the way it was and it is.
