Founded in 1903, Taj Hotels Resorts & Palaces is renowned worldwide as one of the finest and largest group of hotels in Asia. It is an Indian Hotels Company Limited subsidiary based in Mumbai, and a part of India’s largest business conglomerates, the Tata Group. As of 2018, a total of 100 hotels and resorts are operated by the company, with 84 of these located across India. The other 16 Taj establishments are located in other countries that include Malaysia, Maldives, the United Kingdom, Sri Lanka, and the United States of America. 

Since the 1970s, the hotel group has been acquiring royal palaces and converting them into luxury hotels. Each Taj hotel is known to offer an unrivalled fusion of modern luxury, world-class service, and warm Indian hospitality. Its flagship hotel, The Taj Mahal Palace in Mumbai has been at the forefront of Indian high society since its establishment in 1903, and is considered the country’s finest hotel. Along with the Rambagh Palace in Jaipur, it was ranked by Condé Nast Traveler to be among its "Top 100 Hotels and Resorts in the World" in 2013. 

Currently on its 116th year in the hospitality business, the Taj Hotels, Resorts & Palaces group is the only chain of hotels in India with locations in the country’s six major metropolitan cities.
